Together, we did this.
From: Tanya Henderson, Founder & Director, Mina’s List
Peace is Loud would like to thank everyone who supported our Mina’s List Afghan Project to advance women’s substantive political representation in Afghanistan. We are proud to report that, because of your support, from June 23-28 Mina’s List hosted 77 strong Afghan women leaders in New Delhi, India for empowerment and training workshops to prepare aspiring women political leaders to run for political office on a women’s rights and peace platform in Afghanistan. Participants included 35 aspiring female parliamentary candidates (from 32 of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces); 15 women parliamentarians who will now serve as MP Mentors in a 2-year mentorship program; and 12 civil society activists and government leaders who participated in the workshops as trainers on issues ranging from women’s rights, election law, good governance and effective campaign practices.
We are deeply grateful to our in-country partners the Afghan Women’s Network (AWN) and Afghan Women’s Education Center (AWEC) for their excellent coordination and partnership; Mina’s List MP Mentors for their wisdom and ongoing commitment; UN Women and Rockefeller Brothers Fund for their institutional partnership; our technology partners at Voatz who helped us launch WiN, a first-of-its-kind campaign and fundraising mobile app that uses the blockchain to help women candidates safely and securely run their campaigns with their phones; and Ms. Eva Barboni, international political campaign strategist and CEO of Atalanta, for providing top-notch campaign training for our program participants. Mina’s List also wants to thank Ms. Wasima Badghsy, Deputy Chair of Afghanistan’s Independent Election Commission, Ms. Asila Wardak, Director General of Human Rights for Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission, the Hon. Farkhunda Zahra Naderi, the Hon. Elay Ershad, Ms. Palwasha Hassan, Ms. Mary Akrami, Ms. Horia Mosadiq, Ms. Zulaikha Rafiq, and Ms. Roshan Sirran who generously shared their expertise as workshop trainers.
Lastly, Mina’s List wants to extend a huge 🎉CONGRATULATIONS🎉 to all of our amazing aspiring women political candidate participants. We are so excited to see the impact of your inspired and courageous leadership for the future of Afghanistan.
