Mission

Peace Is Loud supports female voices focused on peace-building by helping organizations and individuals mobilize their communities to end and transform conflicts through non-violent means.

Vision

We envision a time when what women know about peace, through experience and intuition, is heard and valued in peace negotiations and reconciliation processes around the world. We envision a future when efforts to construct long-lasting and durable peace take full account of those most grievously affected by war, when the view from the grassroots is considered as valuable as that from the treetops.

Objectives

  • To document and share the stories and strategies of successful peace activists.
  • To help spread these success stories to individuals and communities living in conflict-areas.
  • To provide tools and resources needed to aid peace activists in building their own campaigns as well as maintaining the peace they have already worked so hard to attain.

History

Peace Is Loud was inspired from the story told in the award-winning documentary Pray the Devil Back to Hell.  The women activists featured in this story understood the value of coming together around a powerful yet fundamental human right—the right to live and prosper in peace. The strategies utilized by the women involved the basic tools of strategy, organizing, training and negotiation. Developed on their own and tailored for their country’s needs and political environment, the women created effective campaigns instrumental in achieving peace, disarmament and redevelopment in their country. Today, they remain involved in the development of their country’s re-emergence. They remind us that the primary skills needed to bring about successful change are personal will and the ability to show others how they too can collectively bring their existing talents and resources to bear to make lasting peace.
